Ksenia Pervak out, Elena Vesnina successful in the first round of 2011 Estoril Open
Ksenia Pervak’s terrible run on the Women’s Tennis Association tour continued as she was defeated by French Mathilde Johansson in straight sets 6-4, 6-3 in the first round of 2011 Estoril Open in Portugal.
The running season has proved to be a shocking one for the 19-year-old Russian. She has managed only fours win in her last ten matches at the tour. At the 2011 Australian Open Pervak was Pervak fell in the first round to Petrova.
She was then thrashed out in the qualifying rounds of 2011 BNP Paribas Open and 2011 Sony Ericsson. The young Russian was hoping to restore some of the lost pride by making it to the final stages of the red clay courts tournament but as it turned she was ousted
in her opening match of the competition.
The match started on a positive note as both played exchanged several long rallies. Pervak made good moves and looked for scoring opportunities. However, it was Johansson who made the first serve break of the match. The Frenchwoman
held on to her serve games to take the set score lead 1-0.
The second set also tells a similar story. Pervak organized her game play and displayed better tennis early in the set. However, with the game score tied at 3-3, Johansson had another chance of breaking the serve. She converted
one of the break points to earn an impassable 5-3 lead in the set, serving for the match. Although Pervak saved a couple of match points, she couldn’t stop the challenger from earning a well deserved victory in a match that lasted for only 1 hour and 23 minutes.
Ranked 74 in the WTA rankings, Johansson was delighted at her victory over a competitive player. She looked to dominate right from the start and then strengthened her position in the contest with her brilliant shot selection and
her strong temperament. The 25-year-old achieved 70 per cent first serve conversion and also secured vital serve ace points with her accurate and powerful serving. With her attacking abilities, the Frenchwomen had solid defense as well which allowed her to
come close to the net and put her opponent under extreme pressure.
In another match at the WTA tournament number six seed Elena Vesnina made quick work of local Barbara Luz 6-1, 6-1 to advance into the second round.
Vesnina has been in decent form over the last few weeks and required only 42 minutes dispatching her opponent. Luz on other hand proved to a no-match for the Russian as she managed only 29 per cent of the total points during the
contest.
