Ksenia Pervak outlasts Chichi Scholl to earn a semi-final berth – NURNBERGER Gastein Ladies 2012
Kazakh tennis ace, Ksenia Pervak, carried on impressing her fans with some eye-startling tennis display in the quarter-final round of the NURNBERGER Gastein Ladies tournament on Friday. The third seeded Kazakh outsmarted her bleak opponent, Chichi Scholl, in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1, tanking one hour and 24 minutes to claim a berth in the semi-finals of the WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) International Tour grass-court event in Bad Gastein, Austria.
It was a pretty one-sided encounter between the two contestants, with Pervak dominating all the way to a thumping victory. The 19-year-old American opponent has been the surprise quarter-finalist in the tournament, having stunned the sixth seeded Romanian, Irina Camelia Begu in the second round draw. She couldn’t repeat her magic in the quarter-final round and was completely dismantled by the belligerent game play of the third seeded Kazakh.
Pervak started off steadily to manoeuvre her way through the opening set. Once getting into her winning groove, the third seed pressed the accelerator in the following set and raced past her opponent to claim victory with a breadstick. She spared just five games in the entire matchup for Scholl and registered her 11th victory of the running season to move a step closer to the title shot.
The American teenager had a poor serve game throughout the contest and it proved extremely taxing in the end. She could barely register one break point in the entire contest, while suffering five out of eight cracking ones from the Kazakh power-hitter. Pervak secured 21 out of 29 first serve points and kept building pressure upon the American youngster, eventually forcing her to surrender in the second set.
Action took off right from the first game of the match, with Pervak breaking the American serve to lead 2-0. A second jolt came for Scholl in the fifth game, when the third seed broke her serve once again, only to be broken in the very next game to take the scores to 4-2. Pervak kept her lead intact and held her remaining two serves to close out the opener at 6-4.
A much aggressive game play from Pervak was witnessed in the following set and she broke her opponent once again in the first game to lead 2-0. Two successive break point conversions in the fifth and seventh game left the American teenager stunned; with the third seed Kazakh wrapping up victory at 6-1. Pervak will play her semi-final clash against the seventh seeded French contender, Alize Cornet on Saturday.
