Ksenia Pervak runs over Vesna Dolonts in the 2nd round – Baku Cup 2011
Wednesday, July 20, 2011 saw the start of the second round of the Baku Cup 2011. The two players meeting for the first time were World number 55 Ksenia Pervak who fought against compatriot Vesna Dolonts at Baku Tennis Academy,
Baku, Azerbaijan, winning the match 6-3, 6-3 she managed to clench a place in the quarterfinal.
Ksenia Pervak won the toss and opened the set by winning a walloping eighty one percent of the first serves in the opening set. Although she wasn’t able to save any of her break points she won three out of six break points. Like
a wall blocking the sun, she stood on the acrylic rukort hard court and bounced back everything that came way. Her second return serve saw an exceptional eighty eight percent win. On the other hand, Vesna had a very shaky hand with poor precession she struck
four double faults, two of which hit the net while the other two were line faults. Vesna’s in consistency in her first serve and second serve points, along with poor return cost her, the set. Not able to secure three of her break points she lost to her opponent
(Ksenia) who tried avail every opportunity that came her way and due to her strong defence won the set 6-3.
Although the first set was an easy victory for the 20-year-old in the second set both the players rallied it out however, Kesnia’s immaculate precession gave her a competitive edge and the cherry on top was that she was able to
score a commendable seventy eight percent of the first serves in the second set. Her return game was also an above average and she won a commendable sixty seven percent in her total return points. Whereas, Vesna had a mediocre return game along with a poor
serve. Her defence was not as strong as her opponents; she was only able to save two of her break points and won only fifty percent. Across the board she was only able to win twenty two out of fifty four while her opponent Ksenia won a good thirty two out
of fifty four.
Summing it up; Ksenia won because of her consistency in her serves and return game, along with exceptional defence. While her opponents Vesna Dolonts had a very poor serve along with a weak defence, Vesna lost the match and her
opponent took the lead 2-0.
She will now be facing the French Aravane Rezai in the quarterfinal of Baku Cup 2011.
