Ksenia Pervak zaps Aravane Rezai in the quarterfinal – Baku Cup 2011
Both the players were meeting for the first time at the quarter final of the Baku cup. Ksenia Pervak zapped Aravane Rezai on the rukfort hard outdoor courts at the Baku Tennis Academy, Baku, Azerbaijan, in under seventy minutes
of the match, with a straight two set victory of 6-1,6-2.
Rezai won the toss and serving first opened the game to 1-0 by smashing an ace. She was able to win sixty percent of the first serve opening the set, along with a below the par return serve, which eventually lost her points. However,
she had a mediocre defence but managed to win the only break point advantage her opponent had given her.
Her opponent, on the contrary, was a far better player; even though Pervak hadn’t aced and her precession faltered at which she struck two line faults, she still had a superb first serve percentage along with a return serve that
bounced back everything that came her way. Although she was unable to save the only break point chance, she was able to three of the break point opportunities presented to her by her opponent. Pervak won the set with almost twice as many points as Rezai’s,
because of her agility and style. It was a flawless and effortless victory of 6-1.
After taking a beating in the first set, Rezai should’ve sprung back into the second set to avenge her loss; however, that was just a dream. Serving first with great confidence was Pervak, although neither of the players managed
to hit an ace. Pervak had an immaculate precession striking zero double faults along with winning a walloping ninety four percent of the first serve opening the set.
Although she only had won forty five percent of her total return points, she had a better return serve than her opponent. Her defence was like a an ox that didn’t budge and managed to save all her break points along with winning
two out of the three of her break points. Although Rezai had performed better than the first set she was still unable to beat her opponent and lost with six points in her total set points 6-2.
When all was said and done, Ksenia Pervak had won the match because of her technique and defence. The 20-year- old had out ran her opponent during both the sets and won the match with a lead of 2-0.
She will now duel it out with the Kazakh, Galina Voskoboeva in the semi final at the Baku Tennis Academy, Baku, Azerbaijan.
