Kuala Lumpur Hockey Club defeats UiTM 7-2 in Malaysian Hockey League – Hockey Update
Chua Boon Huat scored twice and had an assist, as Kuala Lumpur Hockey Club (KLHC) thrashed University Technology Mara (UiTM) 7-2 on September 21 to hold back their undefeated record in the Premier Division of the ongoing 2011 Malaysian Hockey League (MHL)
at the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil, Malaysia.
In spite of winning the match, the performance of KLHC could not be called outstanding. Due to missing plenty of chances and a sloppy defence, the UiTM team gave a hard time to KLHC in the first thirty-five minutes of the match.
George Koshy, the Manager of the KLHC line-up despite victory was not happy with the performance of the team and termed it a below-par show. He commented that the team took much time to show their worth on the field. The players, particularly the defenders
made numerous errors and loopholes in the crucial fixture.
He said, “We committed far too many errors and conceded two very soft goals. There is a big difference between our established players and UiTM’s young team but they certainly gave us a run for our money. I’m happy with the three points but we’ll have to
improve our performance for the next few games.”
The KLHC team clobbered Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) in the maiden competition to win the Charity Shield. Having six points, they are currently holding the top position at the point-chart due to the goal-difference over Sapura. In the upcoming game, they
will face Maybank and are quite committed to continue their winning streak.
The game began with both teams working to establish their dominance on the field. As per the expectation, it was KLHC that drew first blood in the fourth minute in the hands of Chua Boon Huat and put the opponents under intense pressure.
In the later time, the defensemen from UiTM made stiffened their defence and did not allow the opposing side to double the tally until the 26th minute of the mark. This time Harvinder Singh received a pass from Mohd Shahrun Nabil Abdullah and
sent it into the cage without giving the rival custodian any chance to stop the ball.
The first half was closed up at 2-0. However, Kevinder Singh notched a goal from the field in the 40th minute and increased the score to three. Tariq Nazir Ahmad and Muhammad Aslam Mohd Hanafiah of UiTM scored one goal each respectively in the
43rd and 46th minutes but to no avail. In the later time, the legendary players from KLHC including Ismail Abu, Boon Huat, Mohd Fitri Saari and Tengku Ahmad Tajudin marked one goal apiece respectively in the 52nd, 56th,
62nd and 68th minutes to seal the victory for their team at 7-2.
