Kubica could be joined by Räikkönen at Renault
Robert Kubica has welcomed the possibility of Kimi Räikkönen as his Formula One teammate at Renault next season.
Kubica signed a new contract extension at the French team this week, and there are suggestions that Räikkönen could occupy the second seat next season.
“As I always say, I have no problems with my teammates. If Kimi will join us it will be very good. I think he is a great and talented driver,” said Kubica.
Team owner Gerard Lopez is reportedly so confident of landing Räikkönen that he has told senior figures at the team he will try to get the Finn to join Renault and return to Formula One.
Räikkönen won the 2007 world championship for Ferrari, and after three years the Scuderia ended his contract a year early. He decided to go rallying for 2010 but has not ruled out a return to Formula One.
Poland’s first Formula One driver Kubica insists having Räikkönen would be a good acquisition for Renault. “It might be a very, very good driver line-up with him, but I don't know what the future will bring us and who will be my team-mate next year. I think it's too early to say.”
Rookie Vitaly Petrov is the second driver currently, but Kubica admits he would prefer to have someone with experience in Formula One. “It's much better, especially in the current days, to have two good drivers in the team - both drivers can help the team and help each other.
"Without testing there is very limited time running. If you have someone you can rely on for information, data and feedback it is much easier for myself. Of course I think there is no downside to having two strong drivers in the team,” said Kubica.
