Kumar Sangakkara bags three accolades at ICC awards – Cricket News Update
Former Sri Lankan skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758, bagging three accolades – Cricketer of the Year, Test Cricketer of the Year and People’s Choice award.
This was the second successive People’s choice award for the Sri Lankan veteran, who was chosen ahead of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Clarke-c1978 for the Cricketer and Test Cricketer of the Year.
The 34-year-old left-hander played outstanding cricket in both one-day and Test format during the twelve-month voting period, spanning August 4, 2011 and August 6, 2012. During this period, Sangakkara played 14 Tests, compiling 1,444 runs at an average of
60.16, with a highest score of 211 against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755, at Abu Dhabi in October 2011. The tally also included five centuries and an equal number of half centuries.
In 37 One Day Internationals played during the voting period, Sangakkara scored 1457 runs, including three centuries. He also completed 39 catches and three stumpings behind the wickets.
Sangakkara said that getting the Player of the Year award was simply fantastic.

"I admire them greatly and even more so when I looked up at their records on the screen this evening. It's great to be amongst them. Now to receive this honour this evening, is simply fantastic," the left-hander went on to add.
After receiving the Test Cricketer of the Year gong, the former Sri Lankan skipper said: "I'm continuing to ensure I’m consistent and I need to keep raising the bar each year … It's a constant battle but I’ve the support of a great team that helps me to
do the best I can."
Sangakkara however missed a third prestigious gong when India’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/V-Kohli-c2737 was named ODI Cricketer of the Year. The Lankan left-hander had bagged this award in 2011, but Kohli’s impressive figures of 1733 runs, including eight tons and six half-tons, at
an average of 66.65, meant he was the most deserving candidate for the accolade this time around.
