Kumar Sangakkara demands his dues from Kings XI
The biggest complaint which is heard from the non-Indian players participating in the Indian Premier League is that their buyers do not clear the dues on time. In fact some players have been reported to say that even after the passage of two to three years, they could not get their cheques yet. A similar complaint has been raised by the Sri Lankan batsman Kumar Sangakkara and the Australian player Shaun Marsh who have written to the BCCI and have requested the officials there to intervene as Kings XI http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Punjab-c833 have not paid the players till date.
Both of the players had represented the team of Punjab in the first three editions of the IPL, and up till now monetary rewards are still being awaited.
When approached for having a clear picture of the incident, a senior official at BCCI said, “Yes, Sangakkara had written to the BCCI about non-clearance of his dues. The matter came up for discussion during the governing council meeting.”
Interestingly, the spokesperson of the Kings XI opted for a different opinion in his mail and stated, “We would like to confirm that all dues to players have already been paid.”
Sources have claimed that while taking part in this year’s IPL auction, both of the players have expressed their apprehensions to play again for the Kings XI Punjab even if they are picked by the team in the upcoming auction.
In the first session, the Kings XI Punjab had bought Sangakkara for US $700,000. While playing for the side last year the league removed Yuvraj Singh from the responsibility, who had been leading the side for past two sessions, the team management handed him the captaincy of the squad.
However, doing so could not bring any good for the owners as the team performed poorly under Sangakkara's leadership.
As mentioned above, Sangakkara is not the only player, who is demanding for not being paid the promised money. In fact a number of other players who had been representing KXIP and the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rajasthan-c837 Royals are waiting for their cheques.
When the matter was discussed with Sundar Raman the chief executive of IPL, he said, “If there’s anything, we will inform you in due course of time.”
