The former Sri Lankan captain, Kumar Sangakkara, has urged his teammates to be patient and discover new ways of winning Test matches in the absence of star bowlers like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Separamadu-Lasith-Malinga-c89197.
"Our ambition now has to be to consolidate with the players we have, the ability we have and find new ways of winning Test matches," said the wicketkeeper batsman while talking to the media reporters at the Rose Bowl.
Sangakkara, who was the stand in captain for the tourists in the drawn http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rose-c86842 Bowl Test, said that they should accept and admit the fact that they would be without likes of bowling greats like Murali and Vaas, and urged the side to find different avenues if
they are to get back on the winning track. He also praised the current Sri Lanka attack for the efforts the bowlers are putting in.
"We don't have Muralitharan any more, we don't have Vaas…Our bowlers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tillakaratne-Mudiyanselage-Dilshan-c93947, who was
out with a broken thumb.
Muralitharan, who is the leading wicket-taker in both Test and one-day cricket, with a tally of 800 Test and 534 ODI wickets, retired from the five-day cricket in July last year, and since then the Islanders have been struggling in the longest format of
the game.
The prolific wicketkeeper batsman, who stepped down as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World Cup 2011, said that the side is in a transitional phase.
"We're a side in transition, but in a way we've fallen http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Short-c90107," said Sanga. "Everyone can look at themselves and think they could have done things better over the past few weeks," he added further.
The stand in skipper however, hoped Dilshan will be fit to captain the side in the limited overs leg of the tour, commencing on June 25 with a one-off Twenty20 International.
The Twenty20 match will be followed by a five-match One Day International series and the tourists must be keen to win the limited-overs series after losing the three-match Test series by 1-0.
Sangakkara rued the Test series loss and hoped that a fully fit Dilshan would be in form for the tourists in the one-day leg of the itinerary.
