Kumar Sangakkara to deliver 2011 MCC Spirit of Cricket lecture at Lord's
Former http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 captain, and current wicketkeeper, Kumar Sangakkara, will be delivering the 2011 MCC Spirit of Cricket Cowdrey Lecture at the famous Lord's ground on July 4, 2011.
The lecture has been organised to give a tribute to the late legend Lord Cowdrey of Tonbridge. He was the former president of the Marylebone Cricket Club.
Cowdrey played an important part to boom the Spirit of Cricket, which was included as the preamble to the Laws of Cricket in 2000.
MCC’s President, Christopher Martin-Jenkins, said that Sri Lanka have been very successful in world cricket in the recent past and it was appropriate for them to call a famous cricketing personality from the country who will be giving the MCC Spirit of Cricket
Cowdrey Lecture.
He said Sangakkara was respected in the game all over the world not only as a player but also as a very intelligent human being. He said his views on the Spirit of Cricket will be illuminating and a lot of people will be waiting to hear him speak on the
day.
MCC president Christopher Martin-Jenkins stated, “Kumar Sangakkara is widely respected in cricket not only as a brilliant player but as a highly intelligent one. His views on topical matters will be truly illuminating and many people will be looking forward
to hearing what he has to say.”
The wicketkeeper batsman of the Sri Lankan cricket team, Kumar Sangakkara, started his International cricket career in 2000 against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755. He has been doing exceptionally well in the team. In his 291 One Day International (ODI), the left hander has scored
9164 runs at an average of 38.02. He has so far scored 11 centuries and 62 fifties.
He has been one of the most outstanding captains of Sri Lanka. Sangakkara has led the Sri Lankan cricket team during the recently concluded ICC World Cup. The team reached the grand finale of the mega event. However, they unfortunately lost the coveted trophy
from the Men in Blue.
