Kumar Sangakkara tops Test Batsmen rankings once again – Cricket News Update
Sri Lanka’s ace batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KC-Sangakkara-c1779, has once again become the number one ranked Test batsman of the world after his extra-ordinary performances against Pakistan in the on-going three-match series at home.
The seasoned batsman has replaced another left-hander, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 earlier this year.
The former Sri Lankan skipper scored consecutive hundreds against Pakistan at Galle and Colombo, helping his team lead the series 1-0. The left-hander was extremely unlucky not to have completed a double century in the series as he remained unbeaten on 199
at Galle and was dismissed for 192 at Colombo.
Sangakkara and Pakistan’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Younis-Khan-c98325 are the only two Asian players in the top 10 ICC batsmen. With one match still to be played in the series, both of them will be looking to improve their stats.
The great batsman was appointed as the Lankan captain in 2009 after Mahela Jayawardene’s resignation. Under the wicketkeeper/batsman’s leadership, the Islanders qualified for the finals of ICC World T20 2009 and the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 Cricket World Cup 2011.
The 34-year-old decided to quit captaincy last year, aiming to concentrate only on his batting.
Sangakkara surpassed Sir Donald Bradman’s record of 29 Test centuries in the second Test against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755. With more than 20 thousand runs at the ultimate level of the game, there is no question about the top-order batsman’s class but being the modest person
that he is, Sangakkara said that Bradman was much greater.
The Matale-born also expressed his satisfaction over completing 30 Test centuries and revealed that it was his childhood dream.
"I have played a lot more Test matches than he has [110 Tests to 52]. If he had played the amount that I have, there would have been no chance of catching him. But it's a great honour to get to 30 hundreds. It is something that I had always set myself when
I started playing cricket and when I started getting hundreds. Thirty is a solid mark for a batsman," the world’s number one ranked Test batsman expressed.
