Kumar Sangakkara wants IPL to be part of Future Tour Programme
Former Sri Lankan captain, Kumar Sangakkara feels making Indian Premier League part of International Cricket Council’s future tour programme can put an end to the clash between the league and national commitments of players.
The wicketkeeper-batsman, who is leading Deccan Chargers in the IPL-4, said it will always remain a debatable issue whether the players should prefer national commitments or their personal commitments with respective clubs and franchises. He urged the apex
governing body, ICC, to take necessary measures to resolve the matter.
“There is enough time for the both and players want to play proper cricket first for their countries and also if they do get an opportunity in the IPL here as well,” said Sangakkara while talking to the media reporters.
“So, it will always going to be a matter of debate but I am pretty sure that everyone in ICC and the IPL will come to an agreement sooner or later for a specific window where the IPL can be played fully,” he added further.
Sangakkara, who stepped down from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 in the final of recently concluded World Cup, further added, “For us in Sri Lanka it is always a case of playing as well as we can for
the country and also do our best to honour our contracts and words with the IPL. I for one don't think that players should be put in a position where they have to choose one or the other.”
Some eleven Sri Lankans are currently playing in the latest edition of Indian Premier League and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has asked its players to return home by 5th May to join the national team in the training camp for the upcoming tour of England.
However, the matter was later resolved after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) requested the Sri Lanka counterparts to let the Island cricketers stay in India to complete their stint with respective franchises. The SLC has now allowed its
players to extend their stay with their respective IPL teams until 18th of May.
