I know about shuai jiao (which is awesome!) and Qin Na. But are there any other grappling styles? Someone was telling me about a "snake" grappling style which highly resembles bjj?

  1. tang lang quan/praying mantis fist has many grappling techs. theres also some forms of zhou jia/chow gar, gou quan/dog fist, ying zhua pai, eagle claw. there's alot more too.remember that styles have variations so some may have more grappling than others.

  2. Having no real instruction in Kung Fu, I'm not the right one to answer this...but grappling in Kung Fu seems different than what people are becoming accustomed to seeing in BJJ. I say different because in Kung Fu and other Traditional disciplines, any "grab" that you employ, even while while standing, can be considered grappling. When I was learning Hapkido, when we blocked or parried a punch and seized control of an arm, and executed a simulated arm break, a wristlock, foot sweep throw or takedown, we considered it grappling. Whatever form of Kung Fu you might practice includes those sort of moves. The competent instructor will teach you how, and in what instances they can be applied.

  3. kung fu is a broad term i belive sanshao has some take downs like in mma.  snake style represents persicion speed timing and yes the monks used this style to learn grappling but it isnt like bjj they still strike too much see striking is more of fighting than grappling an although gracies claim thered method is the best u need a bit of both an bak then only few ppl in odd family jujitsus could come close to grappling att bjj levl with gracies and judo wasnt even out yet

most forms of tai chi are striking only but the few that have grappling although diifficult to even adept in do not match bjj which is only about sport grappling and opponents body minipulation

wing chun has some grappling madd hard to do though and lets see there is chin-na and thats al;ll i can think of now

  4. Dog Kung Fu has a lot of ground work. Never heard of this supposed Snake grappling.

  5. No Kung Fu style highly resembles BJJ becuase there are no ground fighting techniques in Kung Fu.

I know Taijiquan is a grappling style. It focuses a lot on close range grappling and Shuai Jiao is rooted in Taijiquan principles. I'm not aware of any others though.

Japanese grappling styles include Judo, Jujitsu and Aikido.

There's also Wrestling, Sambo and ofcourse BJJ.
