Kurt Busch comes third after beating Jimmie Johnson in Good Sam RV Insurance500 – NASCAR news
Penske Racing driver Kurt Busch scored third position in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race, Good Sam RV Insurance 500 held at Pocono Raceway.
Busch earned his place after a tough position fight with the five-time cup champion Jimmie Johnson.
Busch said, “For us to beat the No. 48, I mean, we've had our battles and a lot of times I come out on the short end of the stick. But what I saw [Sunday] was good, hard racing; where one guy jukes at the other, the other guy jukes back and rubs you a little
bit -- that's racing.”
The last moment fight between Busch and Johnson almost started a rift between the two. After the race both drivers were about to explode to express displeasure about the race events. Busch was reportedly angry about an overtaking act by Johnson in turn 2.
In the final lap, Johnson attempted to overtake Busch as the no. 48 car driver was able to grasp the lead. Moments later at the exit of turn 1, Busch regained the lead.
During the battle, Johnson’s car was damaged after Busch contacted his Dodge with him. Johnson’s no.48 Chevrolet received a bended right side and a tyre screeching into the fender.
Busch added, “That's what race fans love to see. That's what they bought this ticket for. That's what they're sitting in the grandstands rooting on their favourite driver for is to see him get out there, mix it up clean and bring it home just like we were,
third and fourth.”
After action ended, Johnson approached the Penske Racing garage to express his feeling but Busch did not feel the same way. Busch claimed it to be part of racing hard.
Meanwhile, Johnson shared his views and said that he would never overtake someone in such an aggressive way. He does not like rash racing which ends up in a wreck.
Johnson also claimed that he also worked and waited for the right moment to overtake Busch, but when he finally crossed, Busch was annoyed and left him behind in the turn 2 trick.
