Kurt Maflin, Passakorn Suwannawat, Peter Lines, Luca Brecel move ahead: 2012 Wuxi Classic qualifiers
Qualifying session of the 2012 Wuxi Classic snooker tournament, which has earned the status of a major ranking snooker event now, is under way at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield. The session has entered the third stage of proceedings where the matches
are getting tougher for the rookie because they will be facing strong opponents in the final stages of the qualifiers.
Recently the second round matches of the qualifying session finished featuring potters who will challenge the third round entrants. The World Snooker Qualifying School entrants played outstandingly in the opening round and most of them made their way successfully
into the second round qualifiers where the challenges are even tougher for them.
However, many of them survived the battle while the rest tumbled down and crashed out of the event. With classy victories in their second round clashes, Kurt Maflin, Passakorn Suwannawat, Peter Lines and Luca Brecel were able to hit victories and surge into
the third round of the qualifiers.
All these potters defeated Andy Hicks 5-1, Michael Wasley 5-1, Joel Walker by 5-4 and Dechawat Poomjaeng by 5-4 respectively in their second round matches at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield.
Maflin showed his impressive performance in the second round game against Hicks and was able to beat him easily by the score line of 5-1. The Norwegian potter fired some outstanding clearance of 54, 56 and 99 to claim his victory. Maflin will next meet the
former six-time World Snooker Champion, England’s Steve Davis in the third round.
The 2012 World Snooker Q School entrant, Michael Wasley was impressive in the first round against Liam Highfield but he failed to continue his winning streak as he tumbled down against the Thai potter Passakorn Suwannawat who defeated him by the score line
of 5-1. The Thai cueman pocketed some classy snooker breaks of 97, 62, 57, 66 and 60 to unsettle his opponent.
The Rileys Future Snooker Star, Joel Walker played really impressively against Peter Lines in the second round but was not able to beat him. The match up went into the decider frame where Lines cleared the table and claimed the victory by 5-4.
On the other hand, the young Belgian potter Luca Brecel continued his dominance with and beat Thailand’s Dechawat Poomjaeng by 5-4 to set up Jamie Burnett clash in the third round.
