Kurt Maflin goes pro after grabbing Tour Card at World Snooker Academy in Sheffield: 2011 Q School
Norwegian potter, Kurt Maflin is going for pro tour in the upcoming 2011-12 season and is ready to have a better season this time. He grabbed the Pro Tour Card in the ultimate event of the World Snooker
Qualifying School 2011 on Saturday, May 28 at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield.
The 27-year-old Maflin failed to deliver in the first two events of the 2011 Q School as he slipped out of both from the very first rounds.
In Event 1, Maflin had a tough encounter with Craig Steadman, firing some sensational knocks of 48, 80, 53 and 64, yet he lost in the decider frame by 45-76. Steadman fired a superb 42-point clearance
in the last frame and won the match 4-3.
The London-born potter, Maflin tried his luck in the second Q School event at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield. He faced the Essex cueman, Alex Davies in the first round of the Event and faced
the same music he did in first event. Maflin lost to Davies by the score line of 3-4 in the first round.
However, Maflin took his chances in the last event of the Q School 2011 and this time he made it to the professional tour. He reached the quarter-final stage of the event after a walkover against
Li Yan and wins over Chris Norbury, Mitchell Travis and David McLellan. In his quarter-final clash, he defeated Martin O'Donnell 4-1.
After grabbing tour card once again, Maflin said to World Snooker, "I'm over the moon to be back on the tour. There was a bit more pressure today because it's the last event, but I played well and
didn't feel nervous."
He added, "Last season I qualified for the China Open and made a 147 in a PTC event, but otherwise it was horrible. I'm definitely looking to make more of an impact next season."
About his stay in Norway, he told, "Living in Norway makes it a h**l of a lot harder for me. I don't have anyone to practise with there, so I come over to the UK four or five days before each tournament.
I've got a girlfriend there, we've been together ten years and we have a little boy."
