Kurt Maflin ousts Chris Norbury in Round 2 – 2011 World Snooker Q School, Event 3
Kurt Maflin has beaten Chris Norbury by a frame score of 4-1 in the best-of-seven frames Round 2 match of the Event 3 of this season’s World Snooker Q School.
The last event of this season’s World Snooker Q School is being held at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield.
It was an impressive performance from Maflin, as he came far superior to his opponent in all departments. He showed his flawless safety skills along with his magnificent break building abilities and registered a comfortable 4-1 win to move into the next
round.
Meanwhile Chris Norbury, who shrugged off Lee Stephens by a frame score of 4-2 in the Round 1, has lost now his battle for the main tour card in the Round 2.
The overall score-line between both players was 87 (65)-20, 12-73, 99 (99)-0, 85-1 and 57-13.
The first chance in the opening frame fell for Norbury but he broke down after rolling in 20 points and was punished from Maflin, who responded with a classy break of 65 to draw the first blood 1-0. Norbury however responded in the following second and levelled
things by 1-1 without doing anything outstanding.
The third frame was over within a blink of an eye, as Maflin gave no chance to his opponent and restored his one frame lead with a superb match-high break of 99. He then also pocketed the fourth and fifth in a row to kill the match. Though he did not make
any breaks in the last two frames, his tactical game was enough for him to cross the finish line.
Maflin was one of the most dominant players who qualified for the Bank of Beijing China Open tournament last season. He also made an exemplary 147 break on the course but somehow he failed to gather enough ranking points to be on the professional circuit.
However the Norway-based, Maflin, is now making a strong bid to be on the professional tour once again.
