Kurt Rambis turns up at Minnesota Timberwolves’ three day minicamp: NBA News
Even with his future undecided and chemistry issues with the team President David Kahn, Kurt Rambis the head coach of the Minnesota appeared at the practice facility of the Timberwolves on Monday. Rambis spent some time at the
facility, wearing a polo shirt of Minnesota and watched numerous draft prospects run through in front of a crowd of coaches, scouts and executives from around the league.
However, he maintained the distance with Kahn, sitting far away from him. The space between the two wouldn’t have looked so awkward, if Rambis knew whether he was going to coach the Timberwolves for the third successive season.
Washington's Flip Saunders, Los Angeles' Mitch Kupchak, New Jersey's Avery Johnson and Indiana's Larry Bird were amongst the visitors who attended the draft practice session that was hosted by the Wolves.
With the June 23 draft not far away, David has still not reached a decision whether he will continue with Rambis or not and he has every reason to be upset with Rambis. The veteran Los Angeles Lakers’ great promised big things
and a successful turnaround, when he joined the Wolves two years back. However, he failed to bring his words into performance.
His contract is believed to be worth $8 million spanning over 4 years. Now two years are left in the expiry of Rambis contract with the Wolves. Kurt’s stats with Minnesota are pitiable and that’s a major reason behind his undecided
future. In the last two seasons with the Wolves, Rambis has only been able to produce 32 wins. To add fuel to the fodder, the Timberwolves lost their last 15 games during this regular season and ended up with worst record in the league.
Part of Kurt’s problem has been the non-availability of veteran players in his roster. Rambis has had to groom young players in his tenure so far and even Kahn realizes that, "The one thing, in fairness to everybody here -- not
just the head coach, but everybody -- is that it is hard with young players. It is hard to sometimes have to live with the kinds of mistakes that can simply only be overcome by experience."
After another disappointing season, Kahn has been clear that he will take his time to decide whether to bring Rambis back or not. However, the Wolves are not the only team that are faced with the coaching job uncertainty. Los Angeles
Lakers, Indiana Pacers and the Golden State Warriors are all hunting for a appropriate option at the moment.
