Kurt Thomas, Juwan Howard: Players who may never play if the next NBA season gets cancelled (Part 2)
Kurt Thomas
Chicago Bulls centre Kurt Thomas is the oldest active player in the National Basketball Association at the moment.
The burly centre, who is 39 years old, hasn’t played 50 games since 2005-06 season. Moreover, Thomas’ scoring graph had also witnessed a severe dip. His scoring average was in double figures early in his career but declined to
4.1 points per game in the last season. The 6 ft 9 in star is not an force on offense anymore, however he is still tough to bypass on the D and the 2011-12 season might have been his last hurrah.
Now with the lockout looking pretty severe and the next season on the brink of being called off, Thomas’s pro-career seems to be coming to an end.
Juwan Howard
The 38 years old Miami Hear reserve centre Juwan Howard is another candidate, who may not step on the court ever again if the entire next season gets scraped.
The 6 ft 9 failed to impress last season and his scoring average was just 2.4 after playing 57 games and spending 10.4 minutes on average in each. These stats makes him the most perfect candidate to announce his retirement if the
next season got annulled.
Ben Wallace
Detroit Pistons centre Ben Wallace is among the players who were looking to stretch their career by playing another or their last season. However, the lockout had spoiled his plans, because he had just one year left on his contract
with the Pistons and it wouldn’t be possible for him make a comeback at the end of that pact.
The most obvious reason is the age (37 years old). However serious drop in scoring average and poor discipline in the last season with the Pistons don’t help either.
Tracy McGrady
Another player from the Detroit Pistons, who can announce his retirement, might be the 32 years old shooting guard Tracy McGrady. Although the 6 ft 9 guard isn’t that old as compared to other players in this list but fitness issues
have been plaguing him for quite some time now.
McGrady had considered retiring the previous year, but seemed to have given it another go. However, he is not anyway near to his fill fitness and it will only be a matter of time before his knees give way.
