Kurtley Beale believes Melbourne Rebels can win Super Rugby 2012 title - Rugby News
Kurtley Beale, who joined Melbourne Rebels for the upcoming season of Super Rugby championship 2012, believes his side could win the accolade starting in February. The inexperienced Rebels made their maiden entry into the SANZAR event during 2011 and ended
up with last position at the tables. Kurtley Beale talked the media on November 17 and said that his side has got the potential to win the title like other good sides.
The Rebels lacked big names in their side which led to just three wins after 15 outings. However, with the arrival of James O’Connor and Kurtley Beale in the line ups, the side is starting to look good, especially in defending areas. Last year, they faced
huge problems in the back lines and conceded too many tries.
Kurtley Beale and O’Connor both have got the abilities to play at various positions including full-back. During his Super Rugby and International career, Beale has played at centre, fly-half and full-back’s places and produced encouraging results.
Beale made his Super Rugby debut with New South Wales Waratahs in 2007 and represented the derby in 51 games. He scored 182 points for the conference including a good number of tries.
Beale decided to join Rebels on April 14, 2011, for the next three years and thus became the third Wallaby player to sign with one season old team.
Talking to the journalists about the winning possibilities of Rebels in Super Rugby 2012, he said that, "We've got the potential to do whatever we want. Every team has got the opportunity to win the title. We can take that underdog status. We'll be happy
to do that because we know ourselves, the whole 30 of us, that we've got a good special bunch of boys who can do whatever it takes.”
He also stated that, “It will just allow me to get myself right for next year. It's going to be a big year for me moving down to Melbourne. So it's a good opportunity to get myself right physically and mentally freshen up so I can try and hit next year with
a big bang.”
Super Rugby 2012 will kick off in February with opening contest of two New Zealand teams in Auckland.
