Kurumi Nara overwhelms Tetiana Luzhanska to move into final – Beijing International Challenger 2011
Japanese tennis pro Kurumi Nara floored Ukrainian Tetiana Luzhanska 6-3, 6-0 on Saturday to book her place in the final of 2011 Beijing International Challenger Series here in Beijing, China.
Un-seeded at the tournament, Nara has been in superb form over the last week or so and now she will be bidding to win her first ever title on the ITF circuit.
Kurumi Nara started off very aggressively as she broke her opponent in the very first game of the opening set. The Japanese timed her shots to perfection and moved on court like a hare. With strong baseline play, she created several
break opportunities for herself and then converted two of them to race to an impassable 5-2 lead. Serving brilliantly on her next service game, she earned 1-0 lead in the set score.
The second set also followed a similar pattern as Kurumi Nara continued to dominate almost all aspects of the game. Her serving was superior and she was equipped with a better ranged of shots. Breaking the serve thrice in the final
set, she bagged an memorable victory to reach the final of the Challenger’s cup on the hard courts of Beijing Tennis Centre.
Luzhanska did break back once in the opening set but he lacked the firepower in certain areas of the game and she paid the heavy price for too many unforced errors including two costly double faults. The Ukrainian managed to win
only 36 per cent of the points son her second serve which played a crucial part in her defeat.
Kurumi Nara served with accuracy and power as she converted an impressive 77 per cent of the points on his first serve. Converting five out nine break points in the match, she made most of the available opportunities. In the Final,
she will be facing the winner from the match between Frenchwoman Irena Pavlovic and Su Wei Hsieh of Chinese Taipei. Nara, who is full of confidence, is a heavy favourite for the final clash.
