The 31-year old, who arrived at Anfield from Feyenoord in August 2006, has played little part in the Reds ongoing season, giving air to speculations that he may part ways with Liverpool in the summer. Earlier, he made 122 appearances for the Dutch side over
a period of three years and scored 83 goals in the process.
Other than Feyenoord, the Dutchman has also reportedly drawn interest from the BundesLiga side Hamburg.
Kuyt, who has failed to establish a place in the Liverpool starting eleven on regular basis this season, admitted that he had held meetings with Feyenoord over the subject of his move. However, he mentioned that his former employers cannot offer him a salary
comparable to what he is getting at Liverpool; the reason why he is not willing to make a move to Holland.
While talking to reporters, he said: “On several levels the contrast is too big for this moment. The club and I agreed on that. If I would return to Holland I would lose 80 per cent of my salary. When you are 35 or 36 and your career is almost over, than
that's no problem.”
Kuyt believed that he has still got a lot of football left in him, and that he can go on to play for another two to three years in a top European club.
He continued, “I'm still only 31 and still have the ambition to go for the highest possible. A club in a big competition with European ambitions.”
However, his future at Anfield remains uncertain as his contract is set to expire by the end of the next season; a factor which might force the Reds into selling him this summer in order to prevent his move from the club for free.
