KwaZulu-Natal Inland v KwaZulu-Natal - CSA Provincial Three-Day Competition - Day 1 – Live Score and Update
KwaZulu-Natal Inland 271/5 (90.5 ov) - KwaZulu-Natal Inland won the toss and elected to bat
At stumps on the first day of the CSA Provincial Three-Day Competition between KwaZulu-Natal Inland and KwaZulu-Natal, Inland posted a decent score of 271 for the loss of five wickets after they chose to bat first at City Oval, Pietermaritzburg.
Winning the toss was crucial in this three-day event, as the team batting first has a better chance to troubling the opposition if it manages to post a tough total by the end of the first innings.
Batting first meant that Inland needed to score quick and without fear in order to break the back of KwaZulu-Natal’s bowling.
However, they were given an early wakeup call when they lost opener, TM Lortan, for nil when his side had managed to put only a run on the board.
This was a splendid start by KwaZulu-Natal, and now they needed to maintain this pressure on the batting side in order to destroy them for good.
The second-wicket partnership between N Hendrie and SJ Erwee turned the tables as the batting duo led the side to 75 runs before Maharaj spoiled the party by dismissing Hendrie, who walked back to the pavilion after hammering 40 runs off 98 deliveries.
Erwee, who was dominating the bowlers, was then joined by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/B-Moses-c47041, and the two batsmen forged another intimidating partnership as they left the bowlers helpless and vulnerable against them.
The middle-order pair belted the score to 104 before Erwee was left clueless on an outstanding delivery bowled by Maharaj, as he was given leg-before wicket for 44 off 119 deliveries.
Moses and AL Ndhlovu continued the pace in their innings as they raced to 167 after which AL Ndhlovu was clean-bowled by Maharaj for 38.
However, Inland were not finished as Moses forged another befitting partnership with K Nipper, taking the score to 269.
The skipper played a blazing knock of 69 runs which included seven boundaries and two sixes before he lost his wicket.
Inland ended their day as they posted 271 runs with Moses unbeaten on 65 and M Gqadushe waiting to open his account.
