KwaZulu-Natal Under-19s v Griqualand West Under-19s - CSA Under-19 Competition – Day 1 – Live Score and Update
Griqualand West Under-19s 337 v KwaZulu-Natal Under-19s 30/0 (8.0 ov) - KwaZulu-Natal Under-19s trail by 307 runs with 10 wickets remaining in the 1st innings
The first day of play between KwaZulu-Natal Under-19s and Griqualand West Under-19s belonged to the batsmen where the bowlers had to work really hard, while on the other side, the batsmen needed to be wise enough to know when to go after the bowlers in the match that is being played at Kingsmead, Durban.
KwaZulu-Natal Under-19s after winning the toss thought that they needed to bowl first, perhaps they expected the wicket to be a graveyard for the batsmen.
The start was not troublesome for them as they got their first wicket with only 12 runs on the board.
However, as the day passed, the wicket became conducive for batting, helping Griqualand West post a massive first innings score of 337 runs on the first day.
It was the batting side’s good planning that proved fruitful as they halted themselves from the temptation of going after the bowlers right from the start.
After losing an early wicket, they then lost their second batsman with only 30 runs on the scoreboard.
Opener RAH Pitchers forged an astounding partnership alongside his skipper, DS Rosier to leave the fielding side in ruins as the batting duo proved just too good on this day.
The bowlers, by now, had lost the advantage as the wicket had dried out, leaving them on the mercy of the belligerent batsmen.
After racing to 168, the batting side saw RAH Pitchers go down after hammering an innings of 93 runs.
With the dangerous batsman back in the pavilion, it was time for the bowlers to comeback in the match.
However, Rosier kept punishing them while at the same time they were successful in taking wickets from the other end.
After Rosier had lost a few more batting partners, D Bezuidenhout, provided him just the support he was looking for. The skipper later perished after belting a resounding knock of 146 while Bezuidenhout fell for 24.
KwaZulu-Natal Under-19s then scored 30 runs without any loss at stumps.
