Kwan Yi Mong moves forward in the qualifying round of the German Open Grand Prix Gold 2011
Kwan Yi Mong, a Badminton player of Hong Kong, won her first women’s singles match against Iris Wang of Malaysia in the qualifying round of the German Open Grand Prix Gold 2011, today at Mulheim, Germany.
It was a 44 minutes long thrilling fight comprising on three set of quality play from both players. The Hong Kong girl is now one step closer to the main round of the event.
In the opening day of the German Open Grand Prix Gold 2011, Kwan Yi competed against the talented Malaysian player in the opening match of the qualifying draw. The first set of the match was the brilliance of the Malaysian as she played a perfect game without
making even minor mistakes.
The Hong Kong lady had no answer of the strokes driven by the opponent. The opening set of the match took only 10 minutes and the Malaysian won it by a remarkable margin of 21-9.
In the second game of the match, situation became reversed when Kwan Yi occupied the driving seat this time by putting more speed in the game. Right from the start of the second set, the Malaysian dropped the speed of the game down that spared an opportunity
for the opponent to fight back in the game.
Iris made many mistakes in the start of the second game that gave a decent lead to the Hong Kong shuttler, who remained ahead throughout the entire set and finished it up by a 21-14 score in 16 minutes.
The third and final set of the match was a good fight from both sides involved. The score remained close till the interval of the set where Kwan Yi was leading with just one point margin of 11-10. After the one minute interval, Kwan Yi started to build pressure
on the Malaysian by increasing the speed of the game.
She started to play with more aggression and employed strong pushes and down the line smashes. Iris lost her control over the rallies and remained trailing behind her opponent on the points table. Kwan Yi won the third game by consuming in 18 minutes on
the court with a 16-21 score on the board. The final score of this first match of qualifying round was 9-21, 21-14 and 21-16.
