  1. If there are no visible screws on the inside of the door, there is either a small slot or a wire spring, if slot just pry at the slot, then pull the inside of k**b off. If a wire just press it and release. then you will see 2 screws that allow removal.

  2. Kwikset locks are standard in all doors.  The faceplates are not removable.  It must be installed completely to be able to function correctly.  The holes must be drilled to specs, and the latch hole must be big enough for the latch to fit.

Therefore, You must correct the door itself to accomadate the back plate.

  3. Look for a small tab that you press in with a small screwdriver. The doorknob part slides off. Hope this helps

  4. Kwikset makes several different backsets, depending upon the application.  One type does have a removable faceplate.  If you have this one, the plate should slide off toward the back of the backset without too much trouble.

All of the other backsets have fixed faceplates, you can't remove them.  If you have one of these, you could mortise the edge of the door to accept the strike if you have a wood edge door.  The easier solution would be to visit a store that sells Kwikset and ask for a "drive-in" backset.  This is the one that has the loose faceplate, you can simply throw it away.  The backset is adjustable, so you should not need to worry about measuring.  Also might mention that the Titan backsets are interchangeable with the standard Kwikset backsets, so if they only have the Titan that should be fine.
