Kwong Beng Chan defeats Shih Kuei Chun in Men’s Singles second round of Korea Open GP Gold
Malaysia’s Kwong Beng Chan is in wonderful form as he has booked his place in the Men’s Singles round-of-16 after defeating Chinese Taipei’s Shih Kuei Chun in the second round of the 2011 Korea Open GP Gold, in Korea, on Thursday, December 8.
The World Number 84, Kwong Beng has been working hard to find a smooth flow in international events for the last one year. However, now he seems to be back on the right track as he has defeated Shih Kuei in a three-set thrilling fight that took the court
time for 69 minutes.
The Malaysian had to work extra hard in the opening set where he emerged as the winner with a tight score. In the second game, both shuttlers remained close until the concluding phase where Taipei shuttler played smart game and won the set to level the match.
In the final game, the Malaysian found a smooth ride as he faced no resistance and won the game with a remarkable margin.
Kwong Beng opened the first set in a confident way but his opponent was also playing at the same speed. No one could take a comfortable lead throughout the set and the score remained equal until the ending phase. The Malaysian executed some powerful smashes
in the ending rallies and remained successful in taking the game with a tight score of 22-20.
In the second set of the match, both shuttlers again remained close by playing fast and aggressive game. The Malaysian was executing smashes while Shih Kuei was playing with precision. The score reached at the ending stage when the Malaysian failed to dominate
the rallies and lost it with a margin of 19-21.
In the final set, Kwong Beng entered into the court with a different mood as he played with wonderful speed and kept his opponent moving around in all corners of the court. His finishing touch was quite impressive as he ended the rallies without prolonging
them.
The aggressive play of Malaysian helped him to finish the final set with a 21-12 score on the board. The end result of this second-round contest was 22-20, 19-21 and 21-12.
