Kyle Brodziak stays with Minnesota Wild, signs three-year contract extension -NHL Update
Kyle Brodziak has always expressed confidence in his club and proved that on Sunday, February 19, 2012, as the veteran centre player affirmed his position with the Minnesota Wild franchise by re-signing to a three-year contract extension.
The step came at a time when the player, who was potentially the biggest name on the Minnesota line-up up for trade, was speculated to be part of a trade discussion going on before the February 24 deadline, but Brodziak and Minnesota reaffirmed their support
in each other.
As his previous three-year contract worth $3.45 million was to come to a close at the end of the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season, Brodziak continuously faced the media and was asked whether he would be staying or not.
Now, with it all done and over with, for at least another three seasons that is, the player can focus on more important things like performing for the team he works so hard for.
"I'm really happy, happy that it's done with and now I can concentrate more on playing hockey," Brodziak said.
"My goal as a player is to keep getting better every year," added Brodziak. "I need to play a strong game, I don’t expect to score every night or contribute offensively every night, but if I’m playing strong defensively, strong on face-offs, strong on the
penalty kill, good aggressive on the forecheck and being strong on the puck, that’s when good things happen for me."
The new three-year contract extension is reportedly worth nearly double from his previous deal at a cool $8.49 million with a salary cap hit of $2.83 annually, making him an unrestricted free agent at the end of the 2014-2015 season.
Brodziak was picked up by the Edmonton Oilers as the 214th overall pick during the 2003 NHL Entry Draft in round-seven.
The St. Paul, Alberta, Canada native, went on to join Minnesota after his fourth straight season with Edmonton and boasts a career record of 396 games played with a total of 157 points (66 goals, 91 assists).
This season might prove to be the best for the Kyle Brodziak as he already has 29 points (15 goals, 14 assists) in 59 games, compared to his career highest 37 points in 80 games last season.
