Kyle Busch gets pole seat after rain interrupted Sprint Cup qualifiers at Kentucky – NASCAR news
Joe Gibbs Racing driver Kyle Busch managed the pole position for NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race, Quaker State 400.
The race will be held at the Kentucky Speedway as being the inaugural event at the venue.
The qualifying practice was cancelled after a heavy downpour at the Kentucky Speedway. The pole sitter was then chosen from the previous practice session and it was Kyle Busch who had topped the time charts.
Busch said, “We had a really good car, we unloaded well -- been fast much of the weekend. I wish we could have run the lap and put it on the pole, for sure, but with the way the weather is, we just took it off the practice speeds we had earlier.”
Busch added that he is aiming to maintain the front start and sustain a good position in the race. He has planned to make strategically strong pit stops which would help in a successive race finish.
The qualifying round was in progress and about 22 out of the 48 contenders had made their final runs. At that moment, the rain started and forced the session to be postponed for the day, which was later cancelled.
Car no. 6 UPS Ford driver, David Ragan said, “It's a shame qualifying got rained out, but our Ford is fast. We had a good test session here and we are excited to start in the top 10. Our mile-and-a-half program has really been solid this year, so we're looking
forward to the race.”
Ragan came at eighth position to start the Sprint Cup race at Kentucky. He seems to be excited about the first race at the Kentucky Speedway with a huge number of fans waiting for the night race.
Previously he has raced at Kentucky in the Nationwide Series and Camping World Truck Series but this time it is the Cup race and Ragan knows to deal with it.
Busch was followed by Juan Montoya, Kurt Busch, Kasey Kahne and Jimmie Johnson top complete the top five slots. The Nationwide Series race winner Brad Keselowski was placed sixth on the starting grid.
