Kyle Busch seeks to revive his fortunes at Sylvania 300 in New Hampshire – NASCAR news
Kyle Busch had a week to forget as his Sprint Cup Championship hopes took a huge blow in the Geico 400 at Chicagoland. Busch had done well and was leading the race at one point but his car ran out of fuel two laps from the finish and he ended up with a lowly
22nd place.
The race results have seen him dropping down from 1st to 9th in the overall points table. Kevin Harvick, with a 2nd place finish, now leads the pack.
Before the race, Kyle Busch had been the favourite to win the Sprint Cup, with the bookies giving him the best odds at 3/1. However, the race has seen the odds drop with Busch now 5/1 to win the Sprint Cup.
Busch will be looking to get the odds back in his favour and set things on the right track at New Hampshire, a track where he has never won a Sprint Cup Series race. A strong finish however, will put his title challenge back on track and it is too early
to count him out just yet.
Looking ahead to the next nine races, Busch was trying to be more consistent in the next few races. He said that a few years back, one could afford to have a few bad races and still end up as the Sprint Cup Champion. However, the new points scoring format
has changed the game and with the level of consistency on which the top drivers are performing, the Cup is becoming more and more competitive.
Looking ahead to the Sylvania 300, Busch said that he enjoys driving in New Hampshire but always found the track to be tricky and a lot of adjustments had to be made to the car to handle all the variations in turns that the track provides.
Busch also said that he had full confidence in the car and his team and was sure that they will rebound from the bad result at Chicago.
“Dave Rogers (crew chief) and Chris Gayle (team engineer) and Ron Denton (team engineer) and all of the guys on my team have done a tremendous job at being able to put together great cars on and off the racetrack,” said Busch. “I have a lot of confidence
in the guys back at the shop, along with the guys who work on it, to the guys who do everything at the racetrack.”
