Kyle Busch to start from 22nd place at Talladega grid – NASCAR news
Kyle Busch was not expecting much from the qualifying session and the practice runs done for the Nationwide Series race at the Talladega Superspeedway.
At the NASCAR Nationwide Series qualifying for the Aaron’s 312, he piloted his No. 18 Z-Line Designs Furniture Toyota Camry on outskirts of turn 1 and 2. He will start at 22nd place in Saturday’s Nationwide race.
“It is a challenge coming in here sometimes,” Busch said. “You think you can have a fast race car or you think you can have a good race car and unfortunately something out of your circumstance can take you right out of the running for a good finish.”
Busch is eager to head towards the weekend and race, and how it all will play. It is a dull moment during practice and qualifying sessions but when the race starts, it all comes to igniting the track, and on TSS, the two-car bump drafting will create
more interest.
Busch was fast in the practice sessions for the Sprint Cup Series race Aaron’s 499, being the third fastest with a lap time of 49.434 seconds in his No. 18 M&M Pretzel Toyota Camry.
Jamie McMurray and Juan Montoya pilots for Earnhardt Ganassi machines had some fast laps at the Talladega Superspeedway. McMurray has bagged a single victory in 2009 at TSS in his last five races at the speedway whereas Montoya has two finishes.
“Get in front of them and let them push you,” Busch said. “Use that horse power to your advantage. That would be the most important thing to. Overall, those guys have been really good here the past few times and been pretty decent at Daytona as well.”
Elliot Sadler of Kevin Harvick Inc. was the man to snatch the pole position at the qualifying, hitting top speeds of 179.558 miles and out-performing his teammate Clint Bowyer at KHI.
Bowyer was fast with a top speed of 179.373 miles. KHI cars were in the victory lane with first and second place at the season’s first Nationwide Series race and also held the pole position.
