Kyle Chalmers claims Boys 100m butterfly gold – 2013 GHSF Australian Championships
Kyle Chalmers of UNAS claimed gold medal of the Boys 100m butterfly on first day of the 2013 GHSF Australian Age Swimming Championships in SA Aquatic & Leisure Centre, Adelaide on Monday, April 8.
The 14-year-old Chalmers astonished the aquatic crowd with his unmatchable form in the race. He stayed untouchable in the preliminary rounds of the race and continued the same in playoff to secure the title.
With his astonishing pace, he was in a three body length lead over his following swimmer and clocked an effort of 54.79 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Jacob Sedgman of Acacia, who was nearly three seconds slower and surfaced on the finishing end for silver medal by producing an effort of 57.52 seconds.
The second best finisher was traced by Luke Zille of Lefevre Portside, who was almost half body length behind and touched the wall for bronze medal with the timing of 58.13 seconds.
The third best finisher was followed by Alston Jeroff of Katoomba RSL, who was 0.39 seconds apart and hit the finishing end for fourth position by producing an effort of 58.52 seconds.
Fifth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Cameron Usher of Tss Aquatics, who was 0.50 seconds slower and emerged on the wall with an effort of 59.02 seconds.
Sixth finest spot of the race was obtained by Andrew Hemsworth of Knox Pymble, who suffered a deficit of only 0.20 seconds from his preceding swimmer and posted a time of 59.22 seconds.
Seventh position of the race was obtained by Taha Dannaoui of SOPAC, who was only 0.10 seconds away from his former finisher. Dannaoui tried hard to impress his supporters in the playoff but failed to do so as he touched the wall with an effort of 59.32 seconds.
Eighth position of the event was secured by Braiden Oates of Academy, who concluded his race in a time of 59.37 seconds.
In addition, Chalmers received huge appreciation from the audience for his scintillating pace whereas the winners were invited on the medal rostrum for medals and accolades at the victory ceremony of the tournament after the race.
