Kyle Edmund dumps Karim Hossam in Boys' Singles quarters – US Open 2011
In the quarter-final clash of the Boys’ Singles at the US Open championships, the unseeded Briton, Kyle Edmund, took down Krim Hossam from Egypt to make it to the semi-finals of the last Grand Slam tournament of the year.
The British competitor wrapped up a convincing straight sets victory at 6-2, 6-4, in just one hour and nine minutes to enter the final-four of the tournament. It was a pretty one-sided affair, with Edmund dominating for most of
the time in the matchup to drive his opponent out of the competition with the utmost ease.
Edmund banged just 53 per cent of his serve on target but reeled off 19 out of 23 first serve points en route to victory. Hossam also secured 19 out of his 34 first serve points but failed to craft a single break opportunity in
the entire matchup to finish on the losing side in the end. The Briton had six break points in the game and converted half of them to take the better of his opponent in the matchup.
Hossam had a tight check on his unforced errors in the game but kept losing crucial points on regularity to remain on the back foot all the time. His sloppy footwork gave Edmund ample opportunities to crack in a number of assertive
winners and keep ruling the moment.
Edmund was off to a flyer in the first set and took hold of the momentum with an early break point conversion in the very first game of the match. The Briton nailed his successive serve break in the third game and then held serve
to get a substantial position in the contest at 4-0. His aggressive game play earned him 10 out of 11 first serve points in the set, with Hossam failing to recover from the early damage done by the serve breaks. The opening set fell to Edmund’s name at 6-2,
getting him one up in the competition.
The Egyptian regrouped a bit in the following set, holding his serve in the opening two games but Edmund snatched the advantage once again by nailing his third break point conversion of the day in the fifth game to lead 4-2. The
Briton eventually concluded victory after bagging the second set at 6-4, getting through to the semi-finals of the tournament.
Edmund will take on the top seeded Czech opponent, Jiri Vesely, in the next encounter to fight for a place in the final of the US Open.
