Kyle Korver stars as Atlanta Hawks beat Sacramento Kings 112-96: NBA Recap
Sacramento has been a happy hunting ground for the Atlanta Hawks for a long time now. On Friday night; the visitors carried the trend forward by handing Kings a 112-96 thrashing, the ninth consecutive at the Sleep Train Arena,
Sacramento.
The Hawks were spurred on by red hot Kyle Korver, who knocked 5 of 5 from the land of three to end the night with a game high 22 points. Al Horford dominated the glass with 20 points and 10 rebounds while Lou Williams continued
to provide the spark off the bench with 21 points.
Josh Smith also had good game for Atlanta with 19 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 blocks, and Jeff Teague chipped in with 15 on a 7 of 10 shooting. The Hawks shot 55.3 percent from the floor and made 8 of their 15 three point
attempts. They also out-rebounded the Kings by 5 and scored 6 more point on the paint.
The game was tied at 15 nearly midway through the first quarter, before the Hawks sprinted to a 19-15 run to end the first 12 minutes at 34-20.
1:24 into the second quarter and a Lou Williams’ three saw the Hawks stretch their lead to as many as 18 points. The hosts however started to inch their way back into the game after that and with 3:46 to go till the break; a three
pointer by Aaron Brooks initiated a 15-3 burst that tied the score at 56 with 5.5 seconds remaining.
Teague ended the half with a clutch jumper over the head of DeMarcus Cousins to hand his team a two point advantage at 58-56. The Kings tied the score at 63 early in the third, before a 23-7 run blew them away for good. The third
quarter finished with Atlanta leading 86-70.
There was no coming back for the hosts after that.
DeMarcus Cousins, coming into the game after serving a two game suspension for an altercation with San Antonio TV analyst Sean Elliott, was called for a technical again for shouting at a NBA official. He was 4 of 15 from the floor
for 9 points, but grabbed 16 rebounds and six assists.
Jason Thompson led the Kings with a 19 point-10 rebound double-double; Tyreke Evans added 14, Marcus Thornton chipped in with 17 off the bench, while Brooks ended off with 13.
