Kyle Lohse hints at keeping the ball down in Game 3 at the Rangers Ballpark
The St. Louis Cardinals have placed a lot of faith in their pitchers and hitters in this postseason campaign. One of the players to get a chance at redemption in Game 3 of the World Series will be Kyle Lohse. The third starter will face his toughest challenge
against the Texas Rangers at the Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. This will be a special encounter and the pitcher spoke on his strategy on Friday, October 21.
"Nothing really changes a whole lot. You just pay for your mistakes a little more often if you leave the ball up. I'm not going to try to be pitching up in the zone. Every once in a while you have a case where you try to sneak one by somebody up there if
you think they'll chase, but the strategy for myself has always been keep it down and on the corners, and that's not really going to change here."
Lohse knows that the Rangers Ballpark is a slugger’s paradise that means he will need to pitch down to get the necessary results against the rampant Rangers. The biggest concern for many Cards supporters is Lohse’s postseason record. A little like the Texans
own pitcher, C. J. Wilson, the St. Louis veteran has been going through a rough patch in the playoffs.
He is 0 – 2 in the campaign and he has an earning runs average of 7.45. He also happens to be the second highest game starting pitcher in the Major League circuit without a playoff win in a career.
The Rangers will be pitching with Matt Harrison. The Texas hurler is 1 – 0 in the playoffs, thus far and he has an earning runs average of just 4.22. The player looks good on the mound and has hinted at employing the same strategy that Lohse will employ.
When Texas manager Ron Washington was queried on who had the most chances to succeed in the contest, he coolly replied.
"I'm not going to compare the two of them. But Harrison has certainly given us a chance to win the ballgame every time he has taken the ball."
Both teams need three more wins to lift the title. The contest will definitely intensify at the Rangers Ballpark.
