Kyle Lohse shimmers as St. Louis Cardinals defeat Milwaukee Brewers 4-2 – MLB Update
Kyle Lohse pitched six neat-innings to guide the St. Louis Cardinals to a composed 4-2 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri on Tuesday, September 6.
The Cardinals improved their home record to 37-34 this season after their batting line-up did well to compliment the bull-pen following a 1-4 failure in the first game of the three-game series on Monday, September 5.
Lohse leaked just four hits in his six innings to improve his earned-run average to 3.59 for the season. He struck-out six batters in his spell to register his 13th win of the season with just eight starts ending in a loss. He showed immense variety
and arm strength in his spell of 91 pitches to test the National League Central division leaders, who are likely to make it to the postseason this year.
The Brewers will want to take Lohse’s performance as an eye-opener because they are likely to face similar, if not tougher pitching in the next stage of the season. The Cardinals might not have a chance to qualify this season but resurgence this late in
the season might act as a confidence boost for a better showing in the next season.
Yovani Gallardo has had an outstanding season for the Brewers thus far but the home team were comfortable in ungluing Milwaukee’s starter for three crucial-runs in his spell of six innings to set the tone for the game.
Jon Jay scored the first run for the Cardinals in the first inning helped by Lance Berkman’s RBI effort towards right field before he returned in the third inning to double the lead with a 397-feet home-run effort. Matt Holliday replicated Jay’s effort in
the same inning to increase the lead to three-runs before Jay contributed yet again to the scoring with an RBI towards left field in the seventh inning, allowing Tyler Greene to complete the fourth run for the home team.
The Brewers did not have much to gain from the game. Prince Fielder found some hitting form as he connected one in the ninth inning after Corey Hart had extended his hitting streak to 18 games with a double in the first inning.
The three-game series is squared at 1-1 with all to play for in the third game scheduled for Wednesday, September 7.
