Kyle Lohse shines as St. Louis Cardinals overpower Colorado Rockies, 4-3 – MLB Update
St. Louis Cardinals’ starter, Kyle Lohse was impressive with the ball as he threw six dominant innings and struck out six batters in the Cardinals’ 4-3 win over the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field, Colorado on May 29.
Lohse threw pitches with an ERA of 2.13 and permitted only two runs on six hits including two earned runs. He gave away just one walk on his 82 pitches. Lohse expressed his winning excitement and said, “It feels good to go through what I've gone through
and come back and feel like I'm getting that consistency I want to get out there. Not having a start here or there you want to forget about. I'm looking to keep it going.”
The Cardinals started the game pretty well as they posted three runs in the first inning. Jon Jay hit a solo homer (380 feet) towards right-field while Ryan Theriot and Lance Berkman both singled to complete a three-run campaign. The Cardinals were on top
3-0 at the end of first inning. The second inning remained score-less.
In the third inning, the Rockies opened their scoring account by adding one run to reduce the lead 3-1. Chris Iannetta, who shined in the last game, posted a single run on the sacrifice fly of Eric Young Jr. The Cardinals kept going and extended their lead
4-1 when Colby Rasmus homered (410 feet) to right-field. It was considered his fourth home-run of the season.
Fifth and sixth inning passed without any run but during seventh inning, the Rockies’ batters contributed one run to cut-off their deficit 4-2. Ty Wigginton singled to centre-field and Todd Helton posted a single run. The batters from both sides, failed
to score in the eighth inning. Ryan Spilborghs posted the final run for the Rockies when Young hit a single-run shot off centre-field.
Carlos Gonzalez was unable to score a run and went 1-for-5. He commented on his performance and said, “It's always hard when you lose a game knowing that you could have done something with the situation in front of you.”
The Rockies’ starter, Jhoulys Chacin was shaky with the ball as he pitched six innings with an ERA of 3.33 and permitted four runs on six hits. Chacin struck-out seven batters and allowed two walks on 110 pitches.
