Kyle Lohse to start Game 4 for the St. Louis Cardinals – MLB Playoffs
After a considerably long period of rest, Kyle Lohse of the St. Louis Cardinals has been slated to start Game 4 of the National League Championship Series against the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday, October 13.
The 11 days’ rest for the Cardinals starter is not something he is not accustomed to. The last time he pitched was on October 1 whereby he threw against the Philadelphia Phillies.
Although his availability was all known, he did not get any opportunity to exercise his skills acquired over a period of time. But Thursday’s game will be a defining moment for him.
The long rest might well have been a problem for a regular pitcher, but Kyle Lohse dismisses it.
"I don't really see it being too big of a problem since I was able to do it successfully during the second half," Lohse said. "You know, I would have liked to have been out there before, but the way it worked out, I'll take the extra rest and I'll be ready."
Having a 14-8 record with a 3.39 ERA in 33 starts in the regular season, his abilities are not to be doubted. Lohse’s ability to pitch over 188 innings, serve as evidence of his ability to compete with his opponents.
Although he has not been able to win any game in over 18 innings, he hopes he will do things different.
"I've just tried to stay sharp, throwing flat grounds," the right-hander said. "I had my regular bullpen session the other day, and felt good.”
In his October playoff game where he gave up six runs, five of which were earned runs, he has had a 8.44 ERA. Thus it will be thoroughly interesting to see how he takes on the Milwaukee Brewers in Game 4 of the best-of-seven series on Thursday.
The Cardinals will be looking to Lohse to guide them to victory, as the team will come out aggressively and try to dominate early in the game. Both teams will battle hard for a victory, as the Series is winding down and both are desperate to get a spot in
the coveted World Series.
