Kyle Lohse will start on Opening Day for St. Louis Cardinals - MLB News
When the St. Louis Cardinals will take on the Miami Marlins on Wednesday, April 04, Kyle Lohse will have the start for the team. The Cardinals starter on Tuesday had a number of observations to share as far as the last year’s experience and the new season in 2012.
2011 remained excellent for this pitcher, though. The player had ranked 9th in the National League in his wins – which numbered 14.
Despite the achievements that he has made, he did not probably get the kind of limelight that the player deserves. However, that does not bother the player at all. What he knows is that he has become better pitcher over the years.
"I don't put up the s**y, fancy numbers," Lohse said. "I don't strike guys out. But I've become a better pitcher because I don't do that. Last year, I went through a tough stretch in the middle there, and I think stuff like that is what sticks in peoples' heads. They don't remember what I did in September. They think that I finished the season struggling."
It was previously Chris Carpenter who was slated for the Opening Day game starter. However, he could not make it here due to the nerve irritation which was diagnosed last month. That provided an opportunity for this player to prove his mettle.
The 33 year-old player has not sought to be the headline, nor has he over the years tried to outrival any fellow teammates.
"I've been that way my whole career," Lohse said. "I don't play this game for acknowledgements or things on the outside. I play this for my teammates and myself.”
The 11 year career that Lohse sometimes seems to have been overshadowed. However, this is a new opportunity for the player to show what sets him apart in the team. Given the absence of Chris Carpenter, he will have responsibility to take the mound as the starter.
With the passage of time, by the time Chris Carpenter regains his fitness and starts playing, Lohse will be an important part of the Cardinals to strengthen the team’s rotation.
