Kyle Lowry feels he cannot co-exist with Houston Rockets head coach Kevin McHale – NBA Update
Houston Rockets point guard Kyle Lowry, in a recent interview given to the Houston Chronicle, has clearly come out to say that he cannot play anymore under the coaching of Kevin McHale.
Lowry who has had differences McHale previously said that he will not like to continue wearing the Rockets jersey if the coaching change does not take place within the franchise.
"I don't think so; I honestly think it would be tough. Things have to be addressed. The situation would have to be addressed. If things aren't addressed coaching-wise, I guess I have to be moved." – Lowry
In the short spanned season of 66 games, Lowry missed 19 games due to a bacterial infection. He averaged 14.3 points during the regular season to go along with 6.6 assists while getting an average playing time of 32.1 minutes.
Lowry’s absence turned out to be the gain of Goran Dragic. The reserve one guard turned out to be a revelation in the latter part of the regular season, which saw him earn the player of the week award as well.
Dragic’s emergence meant lesser time on the court for Lowry and that seems to have taken its toll. The differences between the two reached a boiling point back in April when McHale grabbed Lowry and pulled him back towards the
team huddle after they had an argument courtside in a game against the Denver Nuggets.
Lowry has only returned to training after undergoing surgery to repair his sports hernia and torn abductor muscles. He was expected to be back in the training for next season after going through a 6-8 weeks rehabilitation process,
however given the circumstances, he is not very likely to return to the Rockets franchise next year.
McHale response to Lowry’s comments has been one filled with surprise;
"That's very surprising, I didn't think we had too much of a problem coexisting this year. Everybody has a little beef every once in a while. I didn't feel like (there were problems). He apparently did. There were times that we
didn't agree on things. There were times that I got on him. I don't think it was unduly harsh on anybody."
The Rockets, given the roster at hand, had a very good last season and had it not been for a long season ending losing streak, they would have been in the playoffs. After this sort of performance it is very difficult that Daryl
Morey, the club general manager, will let McHale go and apparently Lowry will be the one who will either have to accept authority or move away.
