Kyle Lowry stars as Houston Rockets beat Utah Jazz 101-85: NBA Recap
Kyle Lowry was on song as he netted a game high 32 points and dished out 9 assists for Houston Rockets, who out gunned the visiting Utah Jazz 101-85 at Toyota Centre on Sunday evening.
Lowry was truly brilliant as he attempted 7 out of 8 three pointers and executed all 7 of his freebies successfully and at the same time kept on penetrating deep into the Jazz defence to set up buckets for his teammates.
Forward Luis Scola was also in the mix with 26 points and barely missed his double-double with 9 boards while Kevin Martin recorded 11 in this 11th home win for Rockets.
Jazz skid to 3-10 on the road this season after losing this game and they had won and lost 15 games so far in this shortened season.
Utah had 3 players recording double figure, led by Al Jefferson who netted 23 and had 11 rebounds along with Paul Millsap who poured in 22 points, While Raja Bell had 11 in this game.
They had a poor shooting night as compared to the Rockets as Jazz shot 39.5% from the floor and Houston netted 51.4% from the same spot. However Utah were more accurate from the charity stripe as they scored 80.0% and Rockets attempted
70.8% from the free throw line.
The opening quarter remained highly competitive as neither of the two could take a phenomenal lead, however paced by Lowry 9 points Rockets capped off the 1st frame with a narrow, 23-22 lead.
With 06:46 in hand the score was tied at 30 apiece in the 2nd segment, with Lowry’s 3pointer and a jump shot that was answered by a layup from Millsap Rockets placed themselves ahead with 35-32 score.
But Jazz rebutted with a 9-2 run, that helped them to turn things around in their favour 41-37 with 01:47 left in the frame. Houston tried to claw off the deficit with an 8-5 run that concluded the segment with Utah in the lead
46-45.
Rockets opened the 3rd period with a 9-5 run that helped them to eat away the lead and place them ahead with 54-51 advantage. Jazz differed with this change and ripped off a 5-0 run, switching places with Houston 56-54
with 07:31 in hand.
The game kept on changing momentum and it all came down to the last moments of the 3rd frame with score 67-63 and Rockets in the lead. They capped off the segment with a 7-1 run augmenting their lead to 72-64 as the
game entered into its last 12 minutes.
With 09:03 left in the game Martin netted a jump shot that stretched Rockets lead to 80-67. Utah responded with an 11-0 spurt that brought the scores close at, Houston 80-78, with 05:45 on clock.
Rockets came up with an 8-2 run that left the visiting side further away as they were up with 88-80 lead.
Jazz could only score two more points before Houston hammered the last nail in their coffin with a 13-3 run, capping off the game at 101-85 victory.
