New York Islanders is among the teams that are hoping to form a formidable squad for the upcoming season. It wasn’t able to display the performances expected of them and this resulted in many of its fans disheartened.
Nevertheless, the administration has started taking steps to make sure that the upcoming season would hopefully be a better one as they look to make their way into the play-offs.
Islanders has been working on its team ever since the end of the regular season and now they have made a deal that sees the 23-year-old, Kyle Okposo, joining hands with Islanders for another five years.
He has been part of the team for four seasons with a year in AHL in 2008-09 season, but now Islanders has got hold of this very important and skilful forward who has a lot to offer to the team.
"I'm very excited to commit to the Islanders for the next five years, especially with the news of the new Coliseum", Okposo said. "This team really showed its potential in the second half of the season last year and I'm excited to be a part of getting the franchise back to the playoffs".
He didn’t play too many games during the past season but was able to score a total of five goals along with 15 assists in the 38 games he appeared in.
He was expected to be a part of Islanders in more games but unfortunately had to sit out half the season due to a shoulder injury he sustained.
"Kyle has been a critical part of our young core over the past few seasons", said Islanders’ General Manager, Garth Snow. "He is a high character guy that brings size and a scoring touch to our lineup".
He had been a very productive player while playing for his university and things have gotten better ever since he came to the National Hockey League. He has scored 44 goals and a total of 116 points in 192 games.
