Kyle Shanahan expects Washington Redskins to qualify for playoffs in 2012 season – NFL News
With second overall draft pick landing in Washington and addition of a few players on the roster this year, Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan is hopeful of the team’s chances in the 2012 National Football League (NFL) season.
Redskins have strengthened their offence by selecting quarterback Robert Griffin III (RG3) as second overall pick in this year’s draft. They have also added strength at other positions on the roster during this offseason and this has made Shanahan expect
that the team will qualify for the playoffs in the upcoming season.
According to the team’s official website, Shanahan said:
"We don't go into a season not expecting to making the playoffs. My expectation is to win. That’s why we came here."
Last season was not among the best for the Redskins. They struggled on offence as well as on defence and had to end the season on a disappointing note. They finished with 5-11 and were placed at the bottom of the National Football Conference (NFC) East division.
Redskins must be cautious this time as the competition in the division has further increased now. The defending Super Bowl champions New York Giants are already in form while Philadelphia Eagles are also considered a threatening unit. Dallas Cowboys cannot
be ignored as well.
Nevertheless, Shanahan has faith in his players. He said:
"We want a chance to compete every year, and it’s been disappointing for us that we haven’t been able to. I believe in our guys.  I know our guys believe in ourselves and we expect to come in and win.  Anything short of that and we’re as coaches disappointed."
Although it is too early to judge the Redskins, there is certainly optimism in the camp, especially after the arrival of RG3, who is going to be their starter from the very first game.
Only time will tell where the Redskins reach next season, but if they want to make it to the playoffs they must improve on other positions instead of relying just on the rookie quarterback.
Even if RG3 plays up to his potential, he might not be able to lead the team all alone if he does not get the due support from the offence and defence.
