Kyle Stanley back in Illinois, the site of his first runner-up finish
The United States’ Kyle Stanley looks forward to returning to his form, when he will tee off at the John Deere Classic, on Thursday, July 12, 2012.
Stanley started off the 2012 PGA Tour campaign on a high note and recorded a second-place finish at the Farmers Insurance Open, followed by a victory in the very next event, Waste Management Phoenix Open.
It was his career’s first victory and a deserving one, as it was a great comeback by the Gig Harbor resident after the playoff defeat at Torrey Pines.
However, he failed to maintain consistency in his performance afterwards and missed the cuts seven times in 15 starts in total.
Moreover, his best finish came in the World Golf Championships – Accenture Match Play Championship, where he tied for the 17th position.
This week, he is back at a place that saw him get into contention for the first time in his career and earn the runner-up position on the leaderboard.
He challenged Steve Stricker in the final round of the tournament last year with an impressive five-under par final round score. However, he remained just one stroke behind to take the second spot at a 21-under par tournament score.
While talking to the PGA Tour official website, he told that he was happy to be back at TPC Deere Run and confident to record another good finish of his career.
“I'm certainly excited to be back,” he said. “Obviously last year finishing second I had a decent year kind of coming up to that point, but finishing second last year kind of spring-boarded me, I think, into what I'm doing now and it was really my first
time getting into contention. So I have some good vibes here”.
“It was my first time really being in contention, so I was really happy about that,” he added. “And just the experience of kind of being there down the stretch was really good for me”.
He is currently grouped with the defending champion Steve Stricker and Camilo Villegas for the opening two rounds of the event. Stricker looks forward to winning the tournament for the fourth consecutive time in his career.
