Kyle Stanley determined to make a comeback - Golf News
US golfer, Kyle Stanley, has refused to give up his hopes of a strong comeback in the future, following his miserable final-hole meltdown in the Farmers Insurance Open at the Torrey Pines Golf Course in California.
Stanley was obviously disappointed over the loss, which came out from nowhere, as he had a clear lead and was in contention of winning the tournament.
He said that it was a "rare case" and expressed his faith in staging a strong comeback in the future events.
It was all set for the player to clinch his first ever PGA Tour Trophy. Even his name had been inscribed on the winning cheque by the organiser.
The final hole proved to be a total mess of his otherwise impressive performance throughout the event.
He started the event with an outstanding 10-under par 62, followed by a pair of four-under par 68’s in the second and third rounds.
While entering into the final round, he had a five-stroke lead over his opponents.
There was a point in the final round when he had a seven-stroke lead in the event, which he blew away to Brandt Snedeker in the end.
After Snedeker finished his final round with a birdie, Stanley could have afforded a double bogey to win the title.
However, he was even worse, carding a triple bogey to enter the game in playoffs and ended up losing miserably on the second hole.
The golf experts regarded his second place finish as one of the worst and dramatic losses in the history of golf.
However, this is not the end. He has a long career ahead of him and he can prove to his critics that it was just a matter of luck that pushed him back on the second place.
“It is not a hard golf hole,” Stanley said, his eyes glassy from tears. “I could probably play it a thousand times and never make an 8”.
In order to avoid the same situation in future events, Stanley should learn from his mistakes and try to hold his nerves till the end of the final hole.
