Kyle Stanley keen to move ahead after dramatic defeat at Torrey Pines
Kyle Stanley may have shed tears on the final day of the Farmers Insurance Open but now he says that he is willing to move ahead with new plans for the 2012 season.
Stanley participated in the Farmers Open at Torrey Pines last week and had managed to pile up a massive lead over his nearest rival, Brandt Snedeker, on the last day of the event.
However, 3 unwanted bogeys tainted his scorecard, leaving him regretting his career's most terrible defeat.
Snedeker could not believe it either, as his victory came thanks largely to Stanley’s blunder.
The 24-year-old American, shaking his head ruefully, expressed his dismay after the match.
However, he now appears to have buried his worries and says that he will try to focus on the events coming ahead.
"I'm just going to continue to work hard and do what I can do each day to get better, and as long as I continue to do that, I'll be back,” he said.
Stanley was so sure of his victory at Torrey Pines that he had already started celebrating his possible win before the end of the tournament.
On the other hand, Brandt Snedeker looked like he had lost his hope as he was not in a position to reverse the situation on the back of his own performance.
"I tend to wear my emotions on my sleeve a little bit, it just kind of came out," he said. "It was very tough to swallow. But that's one of the things I learned is, I think you need to really be prepared for whatever this game can throw at you".
Stanley set foot on the course Sunday with great enthusiasm and kept Snedeker at bay right from the start.
He managed to gain a 7-stroke lead at the start of the final round. Stanley kicked off the round by reeling off 2 straight birdies on the par-4 1st and par-4 2nd round. He launched his 3rd birdie on the par-5 6th
hole.
On the front nine, he carded a score of 33. He could not show his best form on the back nine, as he faltered on most of the holes.
Despite the fact that Stanley carded 2 consecutive bogeys on the difficult par-3 11th and par-4 12th hole, he still enjoyed a 4-shot lead against Snedeker.
On the other hand, Snedeker did not look as confident as Stanley. He ended up carding a total 67 and had made up his mind about having the runner-up position.
The tournament took a dramatic turn when Stanley marred his hard-earned position on the 18th hole. He ended up shooting a double bogey and scored an overall 74.
The match entered into the playoff where Snedeker held his nerve and made no mistake.
He said that Stanley was playing phenomenal but gave him an easy chance to clinch the title.
He went on to say that his opponent was not in a comfortable situation mentally, which gave him enough room to surge ahead.
Stanley, who is going to participate in the Waste Management Phoenix Open this week, said that he had been a bit skeptical regarding the next event.
Dispelling doubts about his participation the Phoenix Open, he said some have been arguing that after facing a dramatic defeat, he was thinking of giving the tournament a miss. He said it is not true.
He clarified that his schedule is not going to change and he will stick to his work ethic to atone for his latest mistakes.
