The race for the Q-top continues as the second round of the last stage of the PGA Tour Qualifying School shifts with Chris Baryla.
The golfer from Vernon, B.C. charged the second round with his breath-taking 61 and overcame the posted 70 by the former leader. Baryla thus electrified the leader board after posting a colossal 11 under in contention to the first
round leader Kyle Stanley. As for Stanley, he collected a 65 in round 1 for the front which faltered after the Australian posted a one under in the second round.
As compared to the other players, Baryla demonstrated less anxious play at the PGA Tour qualifying school. According to reports, he owes it to the medical exemption. The 108-hole kick between 165 contestants thus, has given the
golfer from Vernon immunity for 15 events for the coming year.
According to the score card, the 28 year old rushed ahead at the Crooked Cat golf course after posting a total score of 133. The score was collected at the second appearance of the 6-round event which left Baryla one shot further
than golfer Ben Martin.
The golfer from the U.S. collected a score of 68 in the second round of the Q-School and thus made a minus 4 through the rounds. Martin played a 66 in the first round to play a total of 134 strokes.
Apart from astounding his rivals with an unreachable 61, Chris Baryla also managed to break the previous record of 62 that had been attained twice before. The previous record was Frank Lickliter who achieved the earlier mentioned
score in the first round of the Q-School. The record was made at the same Crooked Cat course 3 years ago in 2007.
Considering Baryla’s career record, the 28 year old has bagged a total of 7 events in the PGA Tour from last season. The events were collected after the golfer appeared at the Nationwide Tour held in 2009. As for the 2010 season,
the golfer from Vernon failed to play at all because of his hip surgery, though presently, he is competing in the Q-School with hopes of raising his eligibility standings.
With 4 rounds left to decide the winner, the $ 1,500,000 field will be sending its top 25 players with full playing rights to the PGA Tour for 2011. As for the next 50 golfers, they will be holders of full cards for the second-tier
Nationwide Tour.
