Kyle Stanley misses the cut at the Masters Tournament – Golf News
Kyle Stanley missed the cut at the 76th edition of the Masters Tournament after an unimpressive show of bogeys in the second round at the Augusta National Golf Club on Friday, April 6, 2012.
Stanley went off to a great start as he carded a birdie on the very first hole he played, followed by another one on the fourth.
However, when he teed off at the par-four seventh, he never knew it will be the start of his bad times in the round.
He made a double bogey to offset his birdies that he made earlier in the round. It was the same hole that cost him a double bogey in the opening round on Thursday.
Therefore, it played a major role in sinking Stanley’s chances in the Masters Tournament. “I wasn’t the same after that,” he said.
Following his poor run on the seventh, he made four other bogeys to finish four-over par 76 to miss the cut by two shots. His first-round score was three-over par 75.
“It is a weird feeling,” Stanley said. “It’s like, a lot of times you play golf, you feel like you are in control. These past couple of days … it’s been like when nothing goes right, nothing goes right”.
According to Stanley, the course was playing really good for him. The only mistake he made was not to focus properly on his game.
Therefore, he believes that he will change the results in his favour when he will come back to the field again in the future.
“(The course) does set up really well for me,” Stanley said. “You have to hit it well. You have to drive it well. I don’t really know what to say”.
Paul Cassey, KJ Choi, Alvaro Quiros and Ryo Ishikawa were other players who surprisingly missed the cut at the first major event of the year.
Meanwhile, the United States Jason Dufner and Fred Couples surged to the top of the leaderboard after carding five-under par overall scores.
Lee Westwood, Bubba Watson, Rory McIlroy, Louis Oosthuizen and Sergio Garcia were further a stroke back to share the third spot while entering the final two rounds of the tournament.
