Kyle Turris compromises re-signs with Phoenix Coyotes to two-year deal -NHL News Update
22-year-old Kyle Turris was according to some experts, going over his head with his unrealistic demands, while others were of the view that he was standing up for what was right, but the young centre player finally compromised and re-signed with the Phoenix
Coyotes to a two-year deal on Tuesday, November 22, 2011.
Phoenix Coyotes general manager, Don Maloney, had hinted at not trading Turris earlier before the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season began along with as the Coyotes played, and finally made the announcement of re-signing the player.
"We are pleased to agree to terms with Kyle on a multi-year contract," Maloney said in a press release by the Western Conference team. "Kyle is a top, young player who will make us a better team. We look forward to having him in our line-up so he can contribute
to our team."
The two-year contract is worth an estimated, $2.8 million, with an annual salary cap hit of, $1.4 million, which is considerably less than his previous deal which he signed after being drafted as the third overall pick during round-one of the 2007 NHL Entry
Draft by Phoenix.
His three-year entry-level contract might have paid him less salary wise annually, but it certainly did give the player more in potential bonuses with a salary cap hit of $2.695 million and above every year.
Being a restricted free agent after his entry-level contract expired last season, Turris tried his luck by not signing to a deal which he was not happy with, but Don Maloney had the player on the hook and decided not to trade him and allowed him to choose
whether he wanted to sit out next season and even during those that followed.
"If he wants to play in the NHL this season, he will re-sign with us," Maloney told ESPN in October. "We will not trade his rights under any circumstances and are prepared to live with the consequences if he decides to sit out this, and future, seasons."
Now that this chapter in the Phoenix Coyotes history is done and over with, Turris is just happy to be back on the team officially and hopes that he may be able to work out something better in the future.
