Kyle Walker, the 21-year-old Tottenham Hotspur defender, revealed he was determined to fight for a place in the starting line-up at White Hart Lane and try and establish a place in the England squad for the upcoming 2012 Euro.
Walker signed with the Spurs along with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Kyle-Naughton-c21563 in the summer of 2009 from Sheffield United for a combined fee of £9 million. However, he did not get a chance to prove himself with the London side as he was loaned back to Sheffield United.
He remained with the Yorkshire side until the end of the 2009-2010 season, after which he was loaned out to Queens Park http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rangers-c40314, where he stayed until January 2011. His big break came when Premier League side Aston Villa took him on a loan move for the remainder
of the season.
Walker got off to a brilliant start at Villa Park, scoring just nine minutes into his debut and that too against Sheffield United. He also managed to find the back of the net in the English Premier League, in total making 18 appearances and scoring 2 goals
for Aston Villa in all competitions.
While Walker admitted he would prefer to return to Villa next season, even if it was on a permanent basis, Spurs manager Harry Redknapp did not agree. He convinced the English right-back to stay and Walker eventually ended up signing a contract extension
until 2016.
Walker said he was extremely pleased with the contract extension with the Spurs and would try his best to try and establish a place in the squad. He revealed his spell at Aston Villa had been a great help in first-team Premier League football and that it
would help him at Tottenham Hotspur.
Walker said while speaking to reporters:
“The Tottenham contract, I'm happy for, and hopefully I can get into the team now and push forward there.
There are a lot of quality players at Tottenham and it is going to be difficult.
But it is massively important for me to be playing week in and week out. I've had a taste of it at Villa, playing week in and week out at Premier League level.”
The England under-21 international said he was desperately waiting to prove himself at Tottenham Hotspur. He said he was hopeful that Harry Redknapp would give him an opportunity to do so in the upcoming season.
Walker’s spell at Aston Villas was most likely the reason why he was noticed by England national team manager http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fabio-c13152 Capello and was called for the friendly against Holland at Wembley. The right-back admitted representing England was a special occasion for
him.
He said:
“Playing for your country is massive at any level and to go to Euro 2012 would be something special.
It would be a special moment in my career - and I want to play.”
